The exam will be marked as a whole. It accounts for 30% of your final mark for the course.

Explore ONE or TWO ways in which the contexts provided by this course might help you to understand your response to J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. "Contexts" might include any of the following:

• specific reading strategies (such as knowledge of common story patterns and types, gap-filling, or consistency-building)
• the typical characteristics of children's fiction
• other specific texts we studied
• knowledge of readership patterns and habits, sales techniques and statistics, marketing, etc.
• educational and other assumptions about children
• questions about teaching children literature and literary strategies
• specific ideological considerations (construction of subject positions, assumptions about femininity and masculinity, etc.)
• specific theoretical approaches or ideas (such as considering Freudian content or Jungian archetypes)

Then, explore how what you discovered in your explorations might effect your evaluation of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets as a text of children's fiction.

The most valuable answers are likely to be the ones that discuss specific matters as specifically as possible. Concentrate on the topics that interest or perplex you most, and explore them as thoroughly as you can by means of detailed descriptions of thoughts and experiences and specific references to texts.
